Which DVD/VCR combo should I buy? MUST dub VCR to DVD? - toshiba vcr dvd combo record whilst watching another channel

I want to make a decent DVD / VCR to record television and copies (transfer) to my old disc recorder (usually not pre-registered by problems with them know). , Dignity on the hard drive ready for a good cause and should be digital. Want to spend about € 200 - € 250, but could still more (to reach or less!). What do you recommend? I like the Panasonic DMR EZ47 or Toshiba RDXV47 - What do you think?
